About the Author

Steve Hedges is an author of wry, ironic fantasy novels depicting comically heroic and repulsive characters.

He attained a correspondence batchelor’s degree in Humanities in 2008, just as he was beginning to assume the role of stay-at-home dad to his two children. This lifestyle change gave him the opportunity to turn his talents toward writing.

His work is influenced by his childhood in south east London and by his mother, Audrey’s childhood upbringing in east London.
Born in the borough of Lambeth, she often told tales of her life growing up in the working class borough’s of Wapping and Silvertown and later Brixton. She also spoke of her experiences of being a child evacuee at age four to Newcastle during the bombing Blitz of 1940.

Like Charles Dickens before him, Steve took to exploring London’s old streets and to seeking out the regular haunts of the less than reputable. He was looking for inspiration for his fictional characters from London’s population, which helped him with setting the atmosphere and theme for his work. On his travels in the nation’s capital, he was soon to discover that there is no end to the rich vein of humanity living there to draw upon.
